Governor Cuomo announced on Friday his “Save The Waters” bill, aimed at sparing New York from the threats of off-shore drilling. This past January, the Trump Administration announced plans to make virtually all offshore federal waters open for oil and gas drilling.

Cuomo’s bill would prohibit oil or gas exploration and production in New York waters; ban construction of any oil or gas pipelines on state shorelines; and bar transportation of oil taken from New York waters anywhere inside the state.

The Governor also vowed to enlist a “citizens fleet” of leisure boats and fishing vessels to block any attempt to construct oil-drilling facilities off the state’s shores.
